Our origination team is the first point of contact for lawyers, brokers, introducers and claimants who want to explore litigation funding. Our origination team can answer questions about litigation funding, assess whether a matter is suitable for a funding application, provide in-firm training, assist with client pitches, help with firm marketing and work to approve law firms for an Augusta funding facility.

Louis Young

Managing Director
Louis Young

Louis is a co-founder of Augusta Ventures and oversees the origination team.

Prior to joining Augusta, Louis was CEO of another third party litigation fund.  He was also previously COO of Normandy Capital Management and has been MD of a number of international and Australian businesses including Australian Gold Holdings Limited, Colonial Building Company Limited and Steelview Limited. In addition to his experience in investment banking, fund management, company start-up and restructuring arenas, Louis spent 17 years working in Asia and Africa, where he established and successfully sold two businesses, DrillintiTiko and Drillinti Africa Limited

Louis holds an MBA and an LLB from Bond University.

Robert Hanna

Managing Director
Robert Hanna

Robert is a co-founder of Augusta Ventures and oversees lead generation.

Robert has spent over 20 years in the hedge fund industry, initially as head of sales for the International Equity Finance department of Merrill Lynch International based in London, and then as global head of marketing and sales for the Equity Finance Department of Merrill Lynch, Pierce, Fenner and Smith based in New York. He subsequently co-founded Mako Investment Managers, a multihedge fund asset manager, acting as Chief Investment Officer.

Robert holds an MBA from the Cranfield School of Management and an LLB (Hons).

Jacqueline Young

Client Relationship Manager

Jacqueline is a Client Relationship Manager within the Origination team and focuses on identifying, structuring and financing large scale, group actions.

Before joining Augusta, Jacqueline was Head of Group Litigation at Slater and Gordon Lawyers, where she acquired over 20 years of commercial litigation experience.

In the early years of Jacqueline’s career she was predominantly a media lawyer engaged in claims against national broadcasters and newspapers in relation to defamation, data protection and privacy claims. She regularly acted on behalf of The Police Federation of England and Wales, members of Parliament, Chief Executives and represented numerous individuals in carrying out reputation management, ensuring information was not published by the press or was vetted pre-publication.

Over the past decade, Jacqueline has focused on group litigation claims and has been involved in numerous claims covering a wide range of disciplines, including the following noteworthy cases:

  • leading the largest claimant group in pursuing Volkswagen in relation to the emissions scandal;
  • claims against the British Government arising from atrocities committed as a result of the Kenyan ‘Mau Mau’ uprising;
  • claims brought by those afflicted by the side effects of the anti-morning sickness drug Thalidomide.

David Jones

David Jones

David Jones, formerly a partner and consultant with Pinsent Masons, has specialised in construction and engineering projects for many years working in a number of legal jurisdictions around the world including the Caribbean, Europe, the Middle East, India and the Far East.  He has been involved in a number of large arbitration disputes concerning hotels to hospitals, roads to railways, sugar silos to sea outfalls, pipelines to process plants, and water treatment works to waste disposal.

He is familiar with various forms of construction and engineering contracts including FIDIC and Nec. He also has substantial experience in all forms of alternative dispute resolution.

David is now a consultant with Augusta Ventures primarily focusing on funding of international arbitration disputes.

Mohsin Patel

Business Development Director
Mohsin Patel

Mohsin is a Business Development Director and responsible for generating and managing relationships within the legal industry as well as commercial clients and other professionals. He is responsible for conducting the initial review of matters and structuring appropriate financing solutions.

Prior to joining the Origination team, Mohsin was a Senior Investment Manager in the asset management team where he was responsible for the ongoing management and supervision of the Augusta portfolio of cases. Mohsin is an experienced commercial litigation solicitor, having trained at a niche city law firm and thereafter as an associate and head of team at a boutique London law firm. Mohsin has substantial experience of conducting high-value and complex litigation in the High Court and Court of Appeal.

Mohsin holds a BA (Hons) in Law and Politics from Queen Mary, University of London and completed his Legal Practice Course at The College of Law in Moorgate.

Harshiv Thakerar

Harshiv Thakerar

Harshiv generates and maintains relationships within the legal industry as well with commercial clients and other professionals.

Prior to joining Augusta, Harshiv trained and qualified as a litigation solicitor at Mishcon de Reya. He pursued a career change soon after and founded a business in residential real estate investment and development, which continues to operate. He is also a keen investor in small businesses and recently undertook a first round investment in a London based startup. In addition, he has garnered significant experience working as a contract litigation solicitor on some high profile commercial litigation cases.

Harshiv holds an LLB (hons) from the University of Manchester and is admitted as a solicitor.

William Franklin

Client Relationship Manager

William is a Client Relationship Manager primarily focusing on the funding of international arbitration disputes.

William is a solicitor advocate with extensive experience acting for clients in complex and high-value international arbitrations and cross-border disputes. He has acted for clients from around the world across a range of industry sectors, including energy, infrastructure, natural resources and financial services. He has advised on complex disputes before a range of courts and tribunals in Europe and the Middle East, including ICC, LCIA, DIAC, UNCITRAL and ad hoc arbitrations and matters before the Dubai International Financial Centre and English Courts. He is experienced advising on all aspects of dispute resolution from contract negotiation and formation through to investigation, initial case assessment and settlement or final hearing, and enforcement.

Simon Latham

Client Relationship Manager

Simon is a Client Relationship Manager with Augusta Ventures, based in London. He specialises in funding competition and antitrust disputes.

Prior to joining Augusta, Simon was a solicitor at litigation boutique Hausfeld. He acted exclusively for claimants in competition and commercial litigation, often on a funded basis. In his time at Hausfeld, Simon acted for multinationals, SMEs and private individuals in a variety of ground-breaking disputes. He also has experience of coordinating litigation on behalf of groups of claimants, as well as managing disputes in other European jurisdictions. Simon’s unique experience allows him to devise creative, practical, funding solutions for claimants and law firms alike.

Simon holds a Masters in Intellectual Property Law and a Postgraduate Diploma in Competition Law from King’s College London.

Samiksha Gosain

Samiksha Gosain

Samiksha is responsible for generating and maintaining relationships within the legal industry and with claimants directly.

Prior to joining Augusta, Samiksha worked as a dedicated litigation paralegal at Clearly Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. During her time at Cleary she worked on a number of multimillion pound cross jurisdictional matters representing sovereign states, corporate banks and high net worth individuals. Samiksha has also previously worked in the litigation teams of numerous magic circle and regional firms, as well as working on a number of pro bono projects and volunteering at her local Citizen’s Advice Bureau.

Samiksha holds an LLB (Hons) from King’s College London and obtained her Legal Practice Course at BPP Law School.

Owen Prew

Client Relationship Manager

Owen is a Client Relationship Manager within the Origination team focusing on funding general commercial and insolvency claims.

Before joining Augusta, Owen developed extensive private practice commercial litigation experience at Forbes Hare, an offshore law firm based in Tortola, British Virgin Islands with a focus on complex high-value cross-border commercial litigation and insolvency litigation surrounding the collapse of BLMIS (the Bernard Madoff Ponzi scheme).

Prior to that Owen trained at Slaughter and May in London and holds a BA (Jurisprudence) from Trinity College, Oxford. He is dual qualified as a solicitor both in the Courts of England and Wales and in the Eastern Caribbean.

Max Turner

Client Relationship Manager

Max works in the Origination Team as a Client Relationship Manager and is responsible for investment analysis and structuring of portfolio financing solutions.

Following completion of his legal studies, Max worked at Advocates for International Development where he worked on brokering pro bono legal advice between city and international law firms and international development organisations.

Max holds a BA (Hons) in Philosophy and French from the University of Bristol and completed his GDL at BPP Law School.

Christopher Paterson

Marketing Development Manager

Chris has been hired to lead Augusta Ventures’ marketing team and works across all aspects of business development.

Prior to joining Augusta, Chris was a barristers’ clerk for 15 years serving on the Institute of Barristers’ Clerks management committee. During this time he worked across Intellectual Property, Commercial litigation, Construction, Energy and International Arbitration.

Chris spent the last 6 years at Keating Chambers where his role encompassed strategic marketing, relationship management, business development and practice management.

He has a diploma and postgraduate diploma from the Chartered Institute of Marketing and is recognised by the Legal 500 for being “committed to the development of long-term relationships”.

Grace Reohorn

Grace Reohorn

Grace is responsible for the daily operations of the Origination team, tracking cases and ensuring they are processed with efficiency through various business divisions, managing deployment of cases and implementing new processes within the teams.

Grace holds a BA (Hons) in Advertising and Marketing Communications from De Montfort University.

Mehmet Salih

Mehmet Salih

Mehmet is a Marketing & Lead Generation Associate in the Origination team.

Mehmet works closely with the whole of the Origination team to maintain partnerships with organisations and identifying growing markets.

Prior to working at Augusta, Mehmet worked as a legal consultant, advising for legal and management consultancy firms on regulatory, legal, finance, marketing and organisational structures. He has also worked as a key paralegal and litigation assistant to partners of London based firms, whilst managing his time between a myriad of civil law work, business development projects and as a fee earner of over 150 cases.

Mehmet holds a LLB (Hons) from The University of Hertfordshire.

Lucy Kirby

Executive Assistant

Lucy is Executive Assistant to Louis Young and Robert Hanna, providing support and assistance towards the daily running of the business, maintaining client relationships as well as managing the Directors schedules. Lucy formerly worked for Knight Frank as a Personal Assistant and Office Manager, she has over 6 years of Real Estate experience supporting fee earners.

Chantal Asante

Client Relationship Associate

Chantal is currently part of the Origination team as a Client Relationship Associate. Chantal assists the Client Relationship Managers with case origination and supports the preliminary legal and economic due diligence on potential funding opportunities. She is also responsible for maintaining client relationships and corresponding with claimants and lawyers.

Chantal graduated in July 2017 in Law (LLB) from the University of Exeter.

Alison Hickey

Client Relationship Associate

Alison is an Associate in the Origination team, assisting the Client Relationship Managers with case origination, potential funding opportunities and maintaining client relationships.

Alison graduated in Philosophy from the University of Nottingham, and then went on to complete the Graduate Diploma in Law at BBP University Law School. After completing her GDL, Alison worked as a paralegal in an in-house legal team.

Poppy graduated in English with proficiency in French from the University of Exeter in 2017, before completing her GDL at the University of Law in Guildford.
