Our diligence team assesses the suitability of matters for Augusta’s investment and manages the review of each matter before it is approved for our funding. The team is made up of experienced litigation lawyers, paralegals and finance experts who help guide lawyers and claimants through the funding process.
Neill is a co-founder of Augusta Ventures and oversees the claim diligence and monitoring functions of the business. He has over 30 years’ experience in the finance market.
Prior to joining Augusta, Neil worked for HSBC Alternative Investments where he was Head of Sales and Marketing. He was also CEO and founding partner of Armajaro Asset Management, a $1.5bn hedge fund management group. Neill previously held roles at EIM UK assessing potential hedge fund investments, and was Managing Director for Quantitative Research at Salomon Smith Barney in both Australia and London. In the early part of his career Neill was a Derivatives Manager within the investment team at Royal & Sun Alliance in Australia.
Neill holds a BEc from the University of Western Australia and an MCom from the University of New South Wales.

Head of Litigation
Fiona is Head of Litigation overseeing the diligence and monitoring teams in London.
Prior to joining Augusta, Fiona was a partner at Plexus Law and prior to that Pinsent Masons where she specialised in handling a wide range of professional indemnity claims and commercial disputes.
Fiona holds an LLB from the University of Sheffield.

Senior Investment Manager
Philip heads up the diligence team at Augusta.
Prior to joining Augusta in 2014, Philip worked in private practice and for a large general insurance business where he was responsible for document drafting, in-depth analysis of contentious issues and the provision of advice on a range of commercial matters.
Philip holds an LLB and a BA in Business in Marketing from the University of Western Sydney.

Ed is an Investment Manager in Augusta’s diligence team and a solicitor of the Courts of England and Wales.
Prior to joining Augusta, Ed spent ten years in private practice at Carter-Ruck and, subsequently, at leading Scottish firm Maclay Murray & Spens. Whilst in private practice Ed specialised in alternative funding arrangements for commercial and general civil litigation, and was involved in a number of leading cases in this area of the law.
Ed completed the Bar Vocational Course in 2006 and was awarded the Queen Mother Scholarship by Middle Temple during those studies.

Chris is an experienced commercial and banking litigator with over 12 years’ experience both in the UK and in Australia.
Prior to joining Augusta, Chris worked in private practice in Australia at Piper Alderman and Watson Mangioni on a range of commercial disputes including breach of contract, misleading & deceptive conduct, negligence and insolvency. He was the senior lawyer managing a $200m funded class action by over 70 claimants against Lehman Brothers, with a successful outcome for the claimants. Chris has worked closely with litigation funders on various matters and understands the needs of litigants and their lawyers who require access to justice through litigation funding.
Chris has also worked for Barclays Bank on interest rate swap and FX claims where he obtained a deep understanding of costs issues, after the event insurance (ATE) and was heavily involved in alternative dispute resolution.
Chris holds a bachelor of laws/bachelor of business administration from Macquarie University.

Stephen is Augusta’s Legal Counsel and a member of its Review Panel where he is responsible for assessing the merits of financing applications and advising accordingly on their funding.
Prior to joining Augusta, Stephen was a partner and Head of Commercial Dispute Resolution at City law firm, Speechly Bircham (now Charles Russell Speechlys). He headed up the commercial dispute practice for 15 years, for 10 of which he was also a member of the firm’s management committee. His legal practice covered a broad range of commercial litigation and arbitration cases. He brings to bear on his case assessment role the knowledge, skills and judgement acquired over a professional legal career which began in 1975 at London firm Baileys Shaw & Gillett, where he became a partner in 1980 and headed the litigation department from 1983 until the firm’s merger with Speechlys in 1997. He is also a qualified mediator.
Stephen holds an MA in Jurisprudence from Balliol College, Oxford.

Mehmet is an Investment Associate in the diligence team.
Prior to working at Augusta, Mehmet worked as a legal consultant, advising for legal and management consultancy firms on regulatory, legal, finance, marketing and organisational structures. He has also worked as a key paralegal and litigation assistant to partners of London based firms, whilst managing his time between a myriad of civil law work, business development projects and as a fee earner of over 150 cases.
Mehmet holds a LLB (Hons) from The University of Hertfordshire.
