What looks like legal aid, sounds like legal aid, but isn’t legal aid? A not-for-profit third party litigation funder, which LJ Jackson has announced ought to be created by the legal profession. He suggests that ‘seed funding could come from the government, National Lottery, or “quasi-debentures” bought by individual lawyers and/or institutions.’ A fund of this type was originally proposed in 1978, but this renewed enthusiasm in the project stems from the success of private third party funders in the UK.  Law Gazette article.
