The Lord Chief Justice has called for an ‘immediate redesign of civil justice’ in the UK. Having previously criticised the current system for making justice unaffordable to most, the main theme running through his proposal is that technology will replace much of current civil proceedings. While technological advancements can provide many benefits to the system, there is some discourse as to the extent of which this can be a substitute for physical courtrooms and hearings, with proper representation by legal professionals. The result may well be that those who need support the most become more disadvantaged. While the current justice system is in need of attention, it is a complex matter and the government must pay close attention as to the best way to move forward. Law Gazette article.
